Governor Aris Aumentado has established the Isda program to intervene with the high prices of fish in Bohol. From the usual old airport and Dao market stall #31, the Isda Program of the province is about to come to the wet markets of Manga, Dagohoy (near Shoppers Mart), Cogon and Coastway. The program sold fish to consumers at a lower price for budlisan (P140), yellowfin (P180), and pandawan (P160).
To recall, the provincial government established the Isda Task Force through Executive Order 29. The initial result of the Task Force is the current Isda Program.
Recently, the province, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, plans to expand the program’s reach in other wet markets in the city to increase its impact. But before doing so, the Buon Pastore Cooperative, which buys and sells the fish, is still training its personnel to operate the program in the various locations mentioned.
The Buon Pastore gets the supply from suppliers from Surigao, General Santos, Zamboanga, Talibon and Candijay. To ensure the quality of fish, the program employs quality controllers. The suppliers should comply with the quality standards as stipulated in the MOA.
Soon, the said program will include the towns. The parties involved in the program are still completing the memorandum of agreement (MOA).
The freshness of the fish products is also an issue. Sometimes, the supply would not be consumed immediately. But to avoid wastage, the province helps in converting the old stock into dried fish marketed in Ubay.
